Use The Mental Game Of Golf To Lower Your Scores

Mental Golf 2 Comments »

As golf players, we are always pushing to perfect our game. It is a continual battle for improvement that seams never ending. Even the professional golfers are constantly working on their game. When you see even the pros struggling to maintain a constant level, that shows you how difficult golf can be.

Why is it that less than 5% of all the golfers in the World can break 70? Do those golfers have something that we don’t? According to golf manufacturers and their advertising claims, we need the same costly golf equipment that the pros use to play to their level.

That obviously is marketing hype, as you can now pick up the same driver that a PGA star used last year for under $200. So, many of us do have technologically advanced clubs and golf balls that the pros use; why are we still unable to break 70 or even 80?

For some reason the average golf score has barely changed during the last 30 years. Billions of dollars have been invested in developing new technologically advanced golf balls and clubs. Also, millions have been spent by advertisers trying to push these products on the unsuspecting golfer.

Today, we can buy clubs that are easier to play, are more forgiving, cavity back and wide sole irons, plus golf balls that can fly a mile in a straight line. Yet the vast majority of golfers are still struggling to break 90! It seams that a great golf game can not be bought; not even with all the golf swing guides, hundreds of new golf training aids, or up to date instruction methods.

What is the thing that the top 5% of golfers know that we don’t. It appears that that “thing” that they possess is mastery of the Mental Game of Golf. That’s the missing ingredient that can promote the quickest and most lasting change in any golfer’s game. This is the only area of golf that doesn’t cost a penny to use, so it is interesting that barely anyone uses it.

The mental golf game: Using your mind in a calculated, methodical and focused way is the surest method of improving your game and lowering your scores. Mastering the Inner Game of Golf can do wonders for your game. But you have to comprehend how to implement the methods.

After you do, you’ll have confidence in yourself and your game, be able to control your attention, cure your golf nerves and anxiety, have clear focus and mental toughness, and eliminate anger from your game – plus many more benefits.

Knowledge of the mental game of golf is what separates the top 5% of golfers from the rest of us. You can see it in action on the PGA Tour because all those guys have access to the same equipment, golf swing gurus, and putting teachers. The difference between them comes down to how well they master their mental game of golf during each tournament.

Clearly, at their level and with all the demands and media coverage, it is difficult for them to sustain high levels of concentration and focus week after week, month after month. That is why even the likes of Tiger Woods can not win each major in a year or even dominate the majority of events in a season, every season.

But for recreational golfers like us, understanding and using the inner game of golf techniques can have an immediate and long lasting positive affect on our game of golf. It is the quickest way to lower your scores and take your game to the next level. If you would like more information on how to begin, then read How to Learn the Mental Game of Golf. Stop getting upset on the golf course

Mental Golf 1 Comment »

How often do you get really angry on the golf course? I guess there are times when you feel like throwing all the clubs away just because you can’t play a good round.

It can happen to anyone of use. There are times when the pro’s get upset at a poor shot especially when it triggers a bad round. We are not robots programmed to perform perfectly all the time. Just look at the numbers who miss the cut on every tournament. Putting yips is a common place where the score blows out as your mind blows up.

So where do we need to start to get on top, not under the pump for situations that have occurred that may not even be our fault. Think over the last round you played! You probably had some very bad hole. Heh! What about the good ones where you got par or heaven’s above a birdie or two. Focus on the good points and how they were achieved. You can’t replay the shots that caused you grief. You need to move on and focus onto the next hole.Okay I hear you say it sounds good but how do I achieve this when I am boiling mad?

Relax. Plan the next hole, not replay the last one. It takes only 2-3 good shots and you could have a birdie or par. Focus on the job in hand not the one gone before. We can’t have our 21st birthday over again so the same applies to golf, we can’t have the shots over again.

Routine. Have a solid routine for setting up before you play a shot. If you have confidence in your swing and keep to a pre-set routine you will focus on this rather than the previous mishap. Get this practice right before you venture onto the golf course so that it becomes automatic.

Reward. Why not Reward yourself when you have a good shot. Skite to your mates. Yell out or punch the air. Just look at the emotions shown when the pro’s hit a winner. They don’t go around sombre and still after a good shot. I have seen Tiger Woods Punch the air when he has hit a good shot or got a good result, so why can’t you do the same.

Results. The results are not always good so be prepared for this and factor it into the mental side of your game. If you played good shots all the time, would you be a local player or on the pro circuit. They don’t all have good rounds just use the results you get and get on with playing a round for pleasure not a chore to belt the daylights out of the ball and hope against hope for a miracle.

I often have bad shots and need to keep on going. You never know you may be getting into a groove and get a reasonable score by the end of the round even though you started disastrously. Keep going and look for help on the mental aids around to help you improve and enjoy a great game.
